Overview
The award will carry the title 2001
"Top 10 Wonders of the World Wide Web Award," or, stated in short
form, the "10WWWWAward," or in even shorter form, the
"10-4W Award." Awards are intended to honor exceptionally original and
well designed web sites from around the world that exhibit a world vision.
Selected
sites will receive all receive special recognition, and will not be ranked
within the top ten. More detailed information is
presented below concerning the nomination process, selection criteria,
selection process, and the related award and recognition.
Nomination Process
Individuals may nominate their own sites or
sites that they are not associated with. Members of worldVstore.com and My
Spaceship Earth may also nominate web sites for the award. All
nominations, whether internal or external, must be put in an email with
the URL of the nominated site or sites. All nominations are to be sent via email to
admin@worldvstore.com. Additional background information,
including the site's name and contact information, would be helpful but is
not required. To aid in routing, please identify your nomination clearly
in the "Subject" line and include the required URL and any other
details you wish to include. Other than the URL, the nomination email
itself will in no way effect the decision which web sites win the awards. Nominations must be time stamped or received
at latest by midnight,
May 31, 2001. All nominations received will be replied to, so if you
do not receive a confirmation after three days, you may re-submit the
nomination.
Selection Criteria
The decisions by the appointed reviewers of
the nominations is final, and according to their judgment. From the
nominations, the selection committee will choose the most original and
well designed web sites from around the world that contain quality
content and presentation with a world vision. The award is to focus on
small and medium-sized web site; however, large web sites are not
excluded. For the purposes of this award, "world vision" is
understood to mean either a embodiment and celebration of the fundamental unity of all
humanity and life on Earth, or a particular vantage point on reality that
evidences an original, noble quality that transcends the individual or
group perspective and ennobles man/womankind on Earth. Sites with content
on art, man, humanism, society, earth sciences, philosophy, religion,
social sciences, education, social service, creativity, etc. most likely
contain world vision content. Site to be considered may be in any
language, or be situated on any country on Earth.
Selection Process
Winning sites will be notified by email or telephone
call on or after June 18, 2001. The selection
judges will identify the 10 most deserving sites that are
nominated for the honor. All 10 sites will be honored and will be selected for inclusion in the special "Top 10" listing.
Awards & Recognition
Winning web sites will be notified on or
after June 18, 2001. The period of recognition
that the award is intended to apply for is the time period between
June 18, 2001 and June 18, 2002. The award will carry the title 2001
"Top 10 Wonders of the World Wide Web Award." Only the top 10 ranked
sites will receive the "Top 10" award. All winners will receive the right to
display a prestigious and specially designed 2001 "Top 10 Wonders
of the World Wide Web Award" banner on their web page for the
duration of the recognition period. All awardees will be listed with
links on the www.worldvstore.com
site for the duration of the recognition period, and will be archived on
this site, and considerable publicity will surround
the award in conjunction with June 5, the World Environment Day," so
designated by the United Nations. This year's theme is "Connect
with the World Wide Web of Life."
